Google is rolling out a major upgrade to its Android Switch tool in the upcoming Android 17 release. The new version promises to copy far more data when users migrate from iPhone to Android, including iMessage history, wallpapers, app layouts, passwords and Wi‑Fi credentials. Initial rollout targets a small slice of Pixel phones, with broader availability slated in the weeks ahead.

Beyond messaging, Android Switch will now transfer homescreen configurations, alarm settings, calendar attachments, Apple Notes files and even encrypted RCS messages. Developers can opt‑in to move in‑app data, while SIM migration support arrives for select carriers. It also moves call logs and device settings. The expanded tool narrows the gap that has long made iPhone‑to‑Android swaps feel cumbersome compared with intra‑Android moves.

This leap forward could pressure other OEMs to match Pixel’s data‑transfer capabilities, reducing friction for customers switching ecosystems. By preserving more of a user’s digital life, Google hopes to make Android a more attractive destination for iPhone defectors. The upgrade arrives alongside Android 17’s broader feature set, signaling a concerted push to tighten the Android onboarding experience.
