Apple is already mapping out its third-generation foldable iPhone, with a projected launch as early as 2028, according to Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman. In his latest “Power On” newsletter, Gurman said the first foldable iPhone is on the brink of a “truly revolutionary design change” this year, and Apple has a roadmap that extends two generations beyond the first model.

The initial foldable, set to arrive this year, will feature an ultra‑thin chassis, Touch ID in lieu of Face ID, the A20 chip, a C2 modem, and the moniker “iPhone Ultra.” It is expected to carry a 7.8‑inch inner display and a 5.5‑inch cover screen, with a price of $2,000.

A second‑generation model, slated for 2027, has reportedly received formal approval from Apple, according to the Weibo leaker “Digital Chat Station.” That project, dubbed the “iPhone Ultra 2,” is expected to reuse the first‑generation display and launch alongside the 20th‑anniversary iPhone.

The third‑generation foldable, projected for 2028, will feature slightly larger displays on both the inside and the outside than its predecessors, though Gurman did not disclose exact dimensions. This marks the first public outline of a third‑generation model beyond the previously known roadmap, extending Apple’s foldable ambitions a year further.
