Google eases iOS to Android data transfer

Google announced a major improvement to the iOS to Android migration process during its Android Show I/O Edition 2026 keynote. Android 17 will enable users to transfer significantly more data when switching from iPhone to Android, addressing a long-standing pain point for consumers. Currently, switching platforms means losing substantial personal information.

The expanded migration tool supports accessibility settings, alarms, apps with user data, calendar entries, call history, email accounts, eSIM, files, messages, notes, passwords, wallpapers, WhatsApp data, and even home screen layout. However, like recent features, this upgrade will first arrive on Galaxy and Pixel phones before reaching other Android devices.

The new switch will debut with Android 17 and Samsung's One UI 9, expected to launch with the upcoming Galaxy Z Flip8, Z Fold8, and Z Fold8 Wide this July. Samsung has already begun its One UI 9.0 beta program, suggesting consumers might see the enhanced Smart Switch sooner than anticipated.
