The Six Nations trophy will be retired from ceremonial use after sustaining fire damage during transit in round three of the tournament. The incident occurred when the vehicle carrying the trophy was involved in an accident, though no passengers were injured. Silver manufacturers determined the damage cannot be restored to its former state.

An identical exhibition trophy will be used for the remainder of the championship, with a new one commissioned for the 2027 Six Nations. The trophy, which stands 75cm tall and was created in 2015 to reflect the tournament's evolution to six teams, represents one of sport's most prestigious titles. Current holders France are favorites to retain their crown after winning the opening three games of this year's tournament.

The Six Nations organization emphasized that retiring the damaged trophy respects its heritage and preserves the integrity of the championship. A new trophy will incorporate materials from the original, ensuring its history transfers to the new creation. The replacement will take approximately 365 hours to craft and will be unveiled before the 2027 championship, adding another chapter to the trophy's history dating back to 1883.
