Hull KR forward Rhyse Martin will retire after this autumn's World Cup in Australia. The 33-year-old, who captained Papua New Guinea to their third World Cup appearance, played a crucial role in Hull KR's Grand Final victory over Wigan last October, kicking three goals in the club's first Super League trophy win.

Martin made his debut with Canterbury-Bankstown Bulldogs in 2018 before moving to England with Leeds Rhinos, where he won the Challenge Cup. His switch to Hull KR proved fruitful as he helped the club achieve a treble last season, passing 1,000 Super League points and setting a club record with 16 goals in a single match against Lock Lane.

Queensland-born Martin has accumulated 21 caps for Papua New Guinea during his career. His retirement marks the end of an impressive journey that began with childhood dreams of professional rugby league. The Papua New Guinea captain plans to finish the season strong before hanging up his boots after representing his country at the upcoming World Cup.
