Catalans Dragons wing Tommy Makinson announced he will retire at the end of the bijna 2026 season. The 34‑year‑old former England international has won five Grand Finals and a Challenge Cup during his trophy‑laden spell with St Helens between 2011 and 2024.\n\nSaturday’s 42‑20 defeat for Catalans at Huddersfield Giants all but confirmed the end of their slim playoff hopes, meaning Makinson’s final game will be at his hometown club Wigan Warriors on Friday, 11 September.\n\nIn a post on social media, Makinson said, “I feel now is the right time to announce that this will be my final season as a professional rugby league player.” He added that rugby league has been incredibly kind to him and that he is proud and grateful for the journey.\n\nMakinson added he still has a few games left and wants to enjoy every second, taking it all in and giving everything to finish the chapter in the best possible way. He also reflected on living a dream he had as a kid, representing England, France and some of the biggest clubs in England and France.
