During the opening whistle of the Serie A clash between Coritiba and Chapecoense, players stepped onto the pitch wearing shirts that bore the name of English fan Jonny Butcher. The tribute aimed to raise awareness of MND and honour the 29‑year‑old from Norwich who was diagnosed with amyotrophic lateral sclerosis in February.

Jonny, a lifelong Norwich City supporter, fell in love with Brazil after meeting his future wife, Coritiba native Ana Clara, on a dating app. The couple married in 2024, but his diagnosis turned their lives upside down and prompted the club to honor him before their win.

The shirts also featured the phrase “Your strength inspires us. We stand as one.”, a sunflower symbolising non‑visible disabilities. After the anthem, players posed with a banner bearing Butcher’s name and signatures from fans, players and staff.

Coritiba said some shirts will be sent to Butcher’s family and an organisation that helps people with rare diseases. Ana Clara expressed that seeing his name surrounded by thousands of supporters was “incredibly emotional” and that the gesture will stay with them forever.
