Jos Buttler will miss England's 50-over tri-series in Pakistan next month due to a hamstring injury. The wicketkeeper sustained the injury while batting in the second ODI against Sri Lanka at Headingley. Coach Brendon McCullum confirmed Jordan Cox will replace Buttler for the series against Pakistan and Sri Lanka, beginning 20 October.

McCullum stated it is hard to judge Buttler's recovery timeline but praised his professionalism. England also tours Australia for white-ball matches in November. Durham opener Emilio Gay is in line for his first central contract after a debut Test summer.

Cox, Tom Banton, and Dan Lawrence could also feature. Contracts for Ben Stokes and Mark Wood are set to end after their retirements. Ollie Pope, Zak Crawley, Matthew Potts, and Luke Wood are out of favour.

Spinner Shoaib Bashir is another name in that category. Cox impressed with fifties in all three Tests against Pakistan and 76 against Sri Lanka when deputising for Buttler. England will decide on Brydon Carse's Pakistan tour after his recent arrest.

McCullum dismissed regret over coaching all formats, praising new Test coach Stephen Fleming.
