Jockey Callum Pritchard has been suspended for 12 days after a costly error at Plumpton on Sunday. Riding 2-1 favourite Sweet Nightingale in the Super Nigel Boardman Novices' Handicap Chase, Pritchard misjudged the race distance and eased his mount prematurely with a circuit still to run.

Leading by seven lengths, the 25-year-old's miscalculation saw his horse fall from first to last place before recovering to finish third. British Horseracing Authority stewards imposed the ban after reviewing footage and interviewing Pritchard, who admitted mistaking the race distance. The incident occurred during a four-horse field that produced unusually dramatic results.

The suspension deals a significant blow to Pritchard's conditional jockey championship aspirations. Sitting third in the standings with 39 wins this season, he now trails leader Tristan Durrell in the race decided by National Hunt victories between May 2025 and April 2026. Milan Milos won Sunday's race ahead of Delgany Deadline and Sweet Nightingale, trained by Polly Gundry.
