Leicester City manager Russell Martin insists history should not judge his tenure as the club prepares for only its second season in the third tier in 142 years. His primary target is promotion and playing a style that reconnects with fans.

Denmark international Jannik Vestergaard had his contract terminated, former England midfielder Harry Winks joined Cagliari, and Abdul Fatawu moved to Ipswich Town for £20m. Financial constraints also forced the sale of 17-year-old Jeremy Monga to Manchester City.

An end-of-season clear-out saw 10 players depart, including strikers Patson Daka and Jordan Ayew, leaving the club without a senior forward. The only signings so far are Conor Chaplin, a proven League One scorer, and one other. Martin wants two or three strikers offering different profiles, emphasizing recruits must be "desperate to come here and play."
