Gloucester secured the services of World Cup-winning lock Jean Kleyn for the 2026-27 season. The 32-year-old South African joins the Premiership club after a decade with Irish powerhouse Munster. Kleyn brings a wealth of experience, having made over 150 appearances for his previous side and winning the United Rugby Championship title in 2023.

Kleyn's arrival is a major coup for the Cherry and Whites. He brings top-tier Springboks pedigree, having earned 10 caps for his native South Africa since 2023. His journey is unique, also representing Ireland in five Tests, including two games at the 2019 World Cup, after qualifying via the three-year residency rule while playing in Ireland.

Director of rugby George Skivington praised Kleyn's 'edge' and 'winning mentality'. The signing continues Gloucester's ambitious recruitment drive for next season, following the capture of Wales internationals Jac Morgan, Dewi Lake, and scrum-half Dan Robson. Kleyn stated the club's vision matched his career ambitions, hinting at a desire for fresh challenges after ten years in Limerick.
