US President Donald Trump said it would be a "terrible mistake" to oust FIFA president Gianni Infantino after the UN—UEFA, Concacaf and AFC—letter accused Infantino of breaking trust with the aborted FFE proposal.

The FFE plan would have created a new company to manage commercial and ticketing rights for all FIFA competitions, selling 21% to a private investment firm. Trump’s defence marks his first public support for Infantino since the plans surfaced on 28 July.

The 2026 World Cup, co‑hosted by the US, Canada and Mexico, saw Spain beat Argentina in the final. Trump noted Infantino’s record in making the World Cup the most successful event ever. The proposed investor group, Thrive Eternal, is an American VC founded by Joshua Kushner, brother of Trump’s son‑in‑law Jared.
