Derry’s championship run ended after a 1-24 to 1-20 loss to Meath at Celtic Park. Manager Ciaran Meenagh said the team could have “no complaints” after a hard‑fought match that saw Derry rally to share a 1-9 halftime lead but fade under Meath’s possession.

Meenagh highlighted Meath’s 80‑plus percent ball control as the decisive factor. Despite earlier pressure, Derry struggled to regain the ball, leaving the Oak Leafers energy‑sapped and unable to mount a comeback.

The 19‑year‑old James Sargent emerged as a bright spot, scoring 1-2 after returning from an ACL injury. Meenagh praised his resilience and noted the young forward’s potential as a future cornerstone.

With the campaign over, Meenagh admitted the team is “very disappointed”. He thanked players for their effort but offered no consolation beyond acknowledging the loss.
