Aziz Abdul, grandson of former Ugandan dictator Idi Amin, is competing in the Commonwealth Games in Glasgow. The 25-year-old super-heavyweight boxer aims to win gold, a feat that would make him Uganda's first boxing medallist since 1990.

Abdul's participation in Glasgow holds particular significance due to his grandfather's fascination with Scotland. Idi Amin, who ruled Uganda from 1971 to 1979, once declared himself "King of Scotland" and enjoyed wearing kilts and playing bagpipes. Abdul, nicknamed Ringo, sees a potential victory as fulfilling a divine plan, stating, "I might be the new King of Scotland. It's possible."

Despite his lineage, Abdul is focused on his boxing career. His grandfather was also a notable fighter, holding the Ugandan light-heavyweight title for nine years. While inspired by Amin's boxing achievements, Abdul has largely avoided discussing his grandfather's controversial legacy, preferring to focus on his own aspirations at the Games.
