Bowler Alex Marshall and judoka Sarah Adlington have been chosen to carry the Scotland flag at the opening ceremony of the Glasgow 2026 Commonwealth Games.

Marshall, a 59-year-old East Lothian bowler, described the honor as "a huge honour" and admitted to feeling emotional upon receiving the news, especially as he'll be competing alongside his niece, Beth Riva. He quipped about having to temporarily relinquish the flag before the main event, potentially in a playful"fight" with Adlington.

Adlington, a 39-year-old heavyweight judoka aiming for a third consecutive gold medal, revealed she and Marshall had known about their selection for a few weeks but were sworn to secrecy. She expressed immense excitement, anticipating heightened nerves and a sleepless night before the ceremony, hoping it rivals the experience of the 2014 Games.
