Britain’s heavyweight boxing scene is thriving, with world‑class names like Anthony Joshua, Tyson Fury, Daniel Dubois, Moses Itauma, and Fabio Wardley dominating the pro ranks. In the amateur ranks, 21‑year‑old 6‑ft‑6‑in southpaw Damar Thomas is ready to carry the torch. He is targeting a gold medal at the Commonwealth Games in Glasgow, his first major international bout.

Thomas has already proven he can compete at the highest level. After falling short to Olympic legend Julio La Cruz at the World Championships, he rebounded with gold medals at the European U23 Championships and the Strandja tournament, often dubbed a mini‑Worlds. He has stopped two opponents in the U23 event and knocked out Brazil’s Joao Batista Gomes Da Silva in the Strandja final.

England’s squad opened the Games on a high note, with Ellis Trowbridge, Lauren Mackie, Lucy Kings‑Wheatley and Patris Mughalzai all winning their first bouts. Other prospects to watch include Ruby White, Sacha Hickey, heavyweight Isaac Okoh, and Olympian Chantelle Reid.

With the crowd behind him, Thomas aims to turn setbacks into triumphs and grab that coveted gold.
