Wrexham's Summer Rebuild: Where Parkinson Must Strengthen

Wrexham's attack was relentless last season despite minimal possession in dangerous areas. The Red Dragons scored 69 league goals - only five Championship teams found the net more - while outperforming their expected goals by 12.21, the best over-performance in the division. Their 13.24% shot conversion rate was surpassed only by Hull City and Derby County. However, shipping 65 goals (the fifth-worst defensive record) and facing 203 shots on target exposed serious vulnerabilities.

Manager Phil Parkinson has identified several priority areas for recruitment. Wing-back positions require urgent attention following James McClean's January departure, Liberato Cacace's injury struggles, and Issa Kabore's loan from Manchester City expiring. Midfield upgrades are needed after problems in the latter stages of the season, while an additional Championship-ready forward would strengthen their options. Former Wrexham player Brian Flynn told BBC Radio Wales Sport the club needs "at least three or four players" but does not believe it constitutes a major overhaul.

Contract decisions loom large. Paul Mullin and Elliot Lee remain contracted despite joining Bradford City and Doncaster Rovers on loan in January, while Ryan Hardie and Conor Coady also headed elsewhere. Jay Rodriguez, Andy Cannon, Reuben Egan, Aaron James and Kabore are all out of summer contract. Goalkeepers Danny Ward and Arthur Okonkwo have just one year remaining on their deals. Captain Dom Hyam has predicted that loanee Callum Doyle will attract interest from "big clubs" given his 22-year-old age and potential.
