Elena Rybakina came back from a set and a break down to beat Naomi Osaka in three sets at the Canadian Open. Osaka won the first set and led 4-2 in the second before Rybakina rallied to win 4-6 7-6 (7-5) 6-4 in two hours and 33 minutes. Rybakina, who had 72 unforced errors, said: "I was just trying to fight." Osaka broke Rybakina early but could not close out the second set.

In the decider, Osaka had four break points at 3-2 but failed to convert. Rybakina served out with a 15th ace and will play Coco Gauff in the semi-finals. Osaka withdrew from the Cincinnati Open due to fatigue.

Gauff advanced after Belinda Bencic withdrew with a hip injury. The other semi-final is between Iga Swiatek, who beat Diana Shnaider 6-2 6-1, and Elina Svitolina, who beat Ekaterina Alexandrova 3-6 6-0 6-3.
