Tony Docherty has been appointed Scotland Under-21 head coach, with Steven Naismith named as his assistant. Docherty, 55, is a former manager of Dundee and Ross County, and previously served on Gordon Strachan's Scotland backroom staff. Naismith, 39, was assistant to Steve Clarke for nearly a year before Clarke departed following Scotland's World Cup campaign. Sebastien Pocognoli has been announced as Clarke's successor.

Docherty, who once assisted Derek Mc Innes at Aberdeen and Kilmarnock, takes over from Scot Gemmill, who held the position for almost a decade. "I am looking forward to getting straight to work and I'm delighted I'll be joined by Steven, who I have so much respect for as a coach, as a player, and as an individual," said Docherty.

Docherty added that he had several conversations with Scottish FA chief football officer Craig Mulholland and met with Pocognoli during the process. He emphasized alignment on creating a clear national team and player identity, and expressed enthusiasm for supporting clubs through a new initiative aimed at growing Scottish football.

"It's up to us to make sure the national team experience is the best that it can be, while pushing young Scottish players to be the best they can be," Docherty concluded.
