Scot Gemmill will depart as Scotland Under-21 head coach after 13 years, the Scottish FA announced. The former Scotland midfielder, 55, previously coached the under-17s but was unable to guide the under-21s to a European Championship.

Gemmill's playing career spanned Nottingham Forest, Everton, Preston North End, Leicester City, Oxford United and a year at New Zealand Knights. His coaching highlight came in 2018 when the side finished fourth at the Toulon Tournament.

SFA chief football officer Craig Mulholland praised Gemmill's "dedicated service" and said he is "held in the highest esteem" by colleagues and players alike. Mulholland added that Gemmill has represented Scotland with distinction as both player and coach.

Scotland Under-21s' next fixtures are in the autumn against Azerbaijan (home) on 30 September and Bulgaria (away) on 6 October in European Championship qualifying.
