Steven Naismith, Scotland assistant coach, says he will remain involved with the national side no matter who replaces Steve Clarke. The 39‑year‑old, appointed in August 2025, has been part of the squad’s World Cup qualification campaign and the recent tournament. The Scottish FA is short‑listing candidates after Clarke’s resignation following the World Cup exit, even after Clarke signed a new four‑year deal to lead until 2030.

Naismith, who once coached Hearts, dismissed speculation that former Everton boss David Moyes will take charge. He praised Moyes as a top Scottish manager but noted Moyes is busy rebuilding at Everton. Naismith highlighted his coaching education, pro licence, and willingness to help wherever needed.

The FA plans to appoint a new manager before the Nations League starts in September. If no permanent choice is made, an interim coach could step in. Scotland’s next matches include an away game against Slovenia on 26 September and a trip to Switzerland on 16 November.

The new head coach will aim to guide Scotland to Euro 2028 and the 2030 World Cup.
