Steve Clarke World Cup contract debate heats up

Former Liverpool and Scotland legend Sir Kenny Dalglish has urged the Scottish FA to offer Steve Clarke a new contract regardless of Scotland's World Cup performance. Clarke, who has led Scotland to three major tournaments since 2019, indicated his current deal expires after this summer's tournament in North America.

Dalglish, who played alongside Clarke at Liverpool, believes the 62-year-old has already done enough to merit an extension. The 75-year-old described it as 'rather silly' not to secure Clarke's future, emphasizing that the national team would be hard-pressed to find a suitable replacement. Clarke himself suggested it was '50-50' whether he would remain in charge.

Scotland face Japan and Ivory Coast in upcoming friendlies before heading to the United States, where they'll compete against Brazil, Haiti, and Morocco in the group stage. Dalglish remains optimistic about Scotland's chances of reaching the knockout phase for the first time, noting they have 'three chances of qualification' and should fancy their prospects.
