Matt Richardson, born in Maidstone but raised in Australia, has "moved on" from the furore over his 2024 switch to Great Britain after winning two silvers and a bronze at the 2024 Paris Olympics. The 27-year-old, who holds dual citizenship, was banned for life from rejoining the Australian team and will face former team-mates at the 2026 Commonwealth Games in Glasgow as he defends titles won for Australia in 2022.

Since joining Team GB, Richardson has justified his decision with two silvers at the 2025 Track Cycling World Championships, European sprint and keirin titles, and twice breaking the men's flying 200m world record — becoming the first cyclist to breach the nine-second barrier. He credits Britain's superior resources: "No expense is spared... we fly with more bikes, more equipment."

Unfazed by pressure, Richardson says: "I use it as fuel." However, a congested schedule — racing in Japan before Glasgow — may limit his events. "I'll be travelling from Japan so it's nip-and-tuck on which events I can actually make," he admitted, though his goal remains to win everything he enters.
