Para-swimmer Rebecca Redfern is set to compete in the Commonwealth Games in Glasgow, a remarkable feat achieved just four months after giving birth to her daughter in March. The 26-year-old, who has a vision impairment, will participate in the 50m freestyle event.

Redfern, also a mother to a six-year-old son, emphasized the importance of balancing her athletic career with motherhood, a decision fueled by her progressive vision loss. She aims to demonstrate to her children that they have a "supermum." Despite a condensed training period, Redfern has surprised herself with her speed and has been working closely with physiotherapists to manage her physical recovery.

The relocation of the Games to Glasgow has been beneficial, allowing Redfern to have her baby nearby due to the team's support in arranging suitable accommodation. This proximity eases the logistical challenges, especially as she is still breastfeeding. While tempering expectations for the Commonwealth Games, which is not her primary event, Redfern is focused on enjoying the experience and showcasing her resilience.
