Paralympic champion Sammi Kinghorn has announced she will miss the Glasgow 2026 Commonwealth Games after revealing her pregnancy. The 30-year-old T53 gold medalist, who won European and world titles, was set to compete in the event returning to Scotland's largest city after 12 years. Kinghorn competed in Glasgow previously at the 2014 Games.

Speaking on BBC Radio Scotland, Kinghorn described the decision as "really difficult" and noted the uncertainty athletes face when balancing motherhood and competition. The three-time European and world champion will instead serve as an ambassador for the Games. She expressed mixed emotions about watching from the sidelines.

Kinghorn admitted she would feel "a little bit sad" watching the competition without participating, but remains committed to supporting fellow athletes. The Paralympic champion emphasized the rarely discussed challenges athletes encounter when considering family planning during their competitive careers.
