Carrick Dismisses Talk of Easy Man Utd Start

Manchester United boss Michael Carrick dismissed suggestions that his team has been handed a favorable opening to the new Premier League season. Speaking ahead of matches against Hull and Ipswich — both newly promoted sides — Carrick called such claims 'ridiculous', insisting it will be a tough start. 'It's an easy thing to throw out there but it's pretty ridiculous,' he said. Carrick also addressed ongoing transfer speculation, confirming the club is still working to strengthen the squad, particularly with interest in Brighton's Carlos Baleba ongoing. Despite fan frustration over limited activity since Youri Tielemans' £35m arrival from Aston Villa, Carrick emphasized that strengthening remains a priority.

Historically, United's record against promoted sides in opening fixtures offers little encouragement. In the Premier League era, they've only twice faced two newly promoted teams in their first two games — without winning both. The last time United started with back-to-back wins was in 2017 under Jose Mourinho. More recently, under Ruben Amorim, they lost at home to Arsenal and drew with Fulham.

Transfer activity has typically come late for United in recent years, with key signings often finalized on deadline day. This pattern includes moves for Senne Lammens, Manuel Ugarte, and Antony. Given this context, Carrick urged patience, stating, 'I would never say we can't win the title.' He added that the team is excited about the potential ahead and will give everything to achieve success.
