England women's tournament hopes at the FIH Hockey World Cup ended at the group stage following a 0-0 draw with India. David Ralph's side finished third in Pool D on four points, missing out on the top two spots needed to advance to the knockout rounds. They will now compete in a classification phase for teams placed from 9th to 16th. England began the tournament with a 4-0 victory over South Africa but suffered a setback with a loss to China, where they conceded four goals before Tess Howard and Sophie Hamilton reduced the deficit. The team has struggled in recent tournaments, finishing fourth at the 2023 Euro Hockey Nations Championship and fifth in the previous year's event. Since winning Commonwealth gold in 2022, they have not reached a major final.

Meanwhile, England's men progressed to the second stage of the men's World Cup, topping Pool D with three wins from three matches. They defeated Pakistan 4-1, India 4-2, and Wales 8-2 in their final group game. The men's team will carry their 4-2 win over India into the next round, where they will face qualifiers from Pool A.

Both World Cups are being held across venues in Wavre, Belgium, and Amstelveen, Netherlands. England women face Chile on Friday and Japan on Sunday in their classification matches.
