West Bromwich Albion striker Aune Heggebo has been handed a two-match suspension by the Football Association for scoring a goal with his hand during Saturday's 2-1 victory over Norwich City at Carrow Road. The Norway forward was charged under Rule E3.1 after his 75th-minute goal, which came off a left-wing cross from Jimmy-Jay Morgan and struck his arm as he got on the end of it. Norwich head coach Philippe Clement described the incident as a decisive moment, stating the goal should have been disallowed.

The FA alleged that Heggebo successfully deceived match officials by handling the ball in a direct attempt to score, and a regulatory commission upheld the misconduct charge on Thursday. West Brom contested the decision, arguing the ball's deflection off the Norwich goalkeeper materially affected its trajectory, leaving Heggebo with less than 0.1 seconds to react.

As a result, Heggebo will miss the upcoming Championship clash against Burnley and the Carabao Cup second-round tie versus Newcastle United on 26 August. The case is believed to be the first of its kind in English football following a rule change introduced before the 2024-25 season.
