West Brom Drops EFL Penalty Appeal

West Bromwich Albion has abandoned plans to appeal against the EFL's decision to dock them two points for breaching financial regulations. The Championship club stated an appeal "is not in their best interests" and they prefer to "move on" from the contentious issue that has overshadowed their season.

The dispute centered around £2.1m in "in-kind" payments made to The Albion Foundation, the club's charity. While West Brom argued the payments weren't included in PSR calculations, the EFL clarified such expenditure is only allowed where "actually incurred and recorded by the club in its own accounts," not through third-party arrangements.

Despite maintaining the decision was "grossly unfair" and the regulator changed its approach "retrospectively," West Brom concluded an appeal would "serve no practical purpose." The club expressed gratitude to players, staff and supporters for their response under pressure during this challenging period, emphasizing the unity shown reflects "everything that is good about Albion."
