Vibe Coding Test: Building a Podcast App in One Weekend

A developer built PodClip, a podcast clipping app, using vibe coding with Replit in about five hours. The app lets users capture and organize clips from Spotify podcast episodes, addressing the common problem of wanting to save memorable moments from audio content.

Replit's AI-powered development environment generated most of the application automatically, from frontend interface to database and authentication. The developer spent more time writing about the process than actually building the app. The subscription-based platform costs $20 per month and provides tools similar to Cursor, Windsurf, and Lovable.

The app faced challenges with Spotify's API limitations, forcing a manual workaround for clip timing. Despite these hurdles, the experiment demonstrated how vibe coding could rapidly prototype functional applications. The developer broke down complex features into specific prompts, enabling the AI to handle tasks like transcript generation and search functionality.
