Apple Blocks AI Coding Apps from App Store Updates

Apple has blocked Replit and Vibecode from receiving updates in the App Store, targeting apps that enable AI-powered vibe coding. This move prevents these tools from rapidly creating apps that bypass Apple's App Store Review process. The company is reportedly requiring modifications before allowing these apps to update again.

Vibe coding allows non-coders to create apps using natural language prompts and AI chatbots, democratizing app development. While Apple supports vibe coding within its Xcode development environment, it's cracking down on third-party apps that create apps outside the App Store ecosystem. The Information reports that other apps like Vercel's v0 haven't faced similar restrictions.

Apple's actions appear to stem from both revenue protection and security concerns. The company's App Store Review Guidelines prohibit apps from installing or executing code that creates other apps, effectively banning iPhone-based app creation tools. A spokesperson told The Information that the enforcement prevents apps from fundamentally changing their function without review, maintaining the platform's security and integrity.
