Tesla has officially launched the Cybercab robotaxi, nearly two years after unveiling the vehicle. Available through the Robotaxi app on iOS and Android, users can hail autonomous rides in Austin, Dallas, Houston, Miami, Orlando, and Tampa. However, the Cybercab option is initially only available in Austin.

Even in Austin, what customers receive depends on group size and availability; riders cannot currently select the Cybercab specifically. Tesla stated the vehicle is for errands and commuting. As noted by The New York Times, Tesla is authorized to operate 314 driverless vehicles in Texas, mostly Model Ys, with only 45 units in the fleet being Cybercabs.

Cybercabs lack steering wheels and brake pedals, designed for complete autonomy. Inside, bench-style seating accommodates up to two passengers with a central touchscreen and trunk space for luggage and scooters. While the operating Cybercabs in Austin are owned by Tesla, the company plans to sell them in the future.

When unveiled, Elon Musk envisioned a future where people own several Cybercabs and earn money through a ridesharing network. Tesla is currently taking inquiries from those interested in helping build its robotaxi network, indicating initial sales to companies purchasing whole fleets.
