Toei Company, the Japanese entertainment conglomerate behind Dragon Ball, One Piece, and Sailor Moon, has launched a new gaming division called Toei Games. This marks the company's return to the video game industry after more than two decades away.

The studio previously dabbled in games during the 1990s but exited the market in 1998 following the release of Chameleon Twist 2. Currently, Toei licenses its intellectual property to publishers like Bandai Namco, which handles most Dragon Ball game releases. It's unclear whether Toei Games will develop titles in-house or focus on publishing.

The company's website suggests a collaborative approach, positioning Toei Games as an "accomplice" that believes in creators' passion for game development. Their stated mission emphasizes delivering "beloved stories to the world" through gaming—a natural extension of their animation business.

The move signals Toei's intent to capture more value from its gaming IP, as anime-based games continue generating massive revenue through mobile and live-service titles.
