Micron Technology officially opened India's inaugural semiconductor assembly and test facility in Sanand, Gujarat, marking a significant expansion of the company's global manufacturing footprint. The state-of-the-art plant converts advanced DRAM and NAND wafers from Micron's worldwide network into finished memory and storage products. Approximately $2.75 billion in combined investment from Micron and its government partners underpins this project, establishing one of the world's largest single-floor cleanrooms at over 500,000 square feet.

The site serves customers globally to meet surging demand driven by artificial intelligence. Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Micron CEO Sanjay Mehrotra inaugurated the facility, highlighting its role in building India's resilient semiconductor ecosystem and transitioning the nation from a chip consumer to a manufacturing hub. Micron expects to assemble and test tens of millions of chips at Sanand by 2026, scaling to hundreds of millions by 2027.
