Applied Materials and Micron Technology have announced a major partnership to accelerate development of next-generation memory technologies including DRAM, HBM, and NAND for AI systems. The collaboration brings together Applied's new $5 billion EPIC Center in Silicon Valley with Micron's innovation hub in Boise, Idaho, combining their advanced R&D capabilities to strengthen the U.S. semiconductor innovation pipeline.

This partnership builds on decades of collaboration between the two companies, focusing on materials engineering and manufacturing innovation to deliver higher performance and more energy-efficient memory chips. The EPIC Center, designed to dramatically reduce commercialization time from research to manufacturing, will provide earlier access to Applied's R&D portfolio and faster technology transfer cycles. Teams will work on advanced packaging solutions to enable high-bandwidth, low-power memory for power-intensive AI workloads.

The collaboration represents a significant investment in American semiconductor manufacturing, with both companies emphasizing the critical role of memory and storage in unlocking AI's full potential. By creating a unique lab-to-fab pipeline, the partnership aims to drive advances in disruptive tools, materials, and processes needed for extreme scaling and improved energy efficiency in future memory architectures.
