Kioxia Corporation rolled out the BG8 series SSDs, targeting PC OEMs seeking mainstream PCIe 5.0 performance. Built on the company’s eighth‑generation BiCS FLASH TLC 3D NAND, the drives promise up to 10,300 MB/s sequential reads and 10,000 MB/s writes. Their DRAM‑less design leverages Host Memory Buffer to keep power draw and cost low.

Benchmark figures show the BG8 line delivering 47 % higher sequential read, 67 % faster sequential write, 44 % boost in random reads and 30 % lift in random writes versus its predecessor. Random‑access performance tops 1.4 million IOPS for reads and 1.3 million IOPS for writes, positioning the drives for demanding client workloads in thin laptops and desktops.

The series ships in 512 GB, 1 TB and 2 TB capacities across three M.2 form factors—2230, 2242 and 2280—giving OEMs flexibility for ultra‑slim notebooks, commercial machines and standard desktops. NVMe 2.0d compliance and TCG Opal 2.02 self‑encrypting support address security mandates, while the Gen 5 x4 interface ensures future‑proof bandwidth.

Kioxia has begun sampling the BG8 drives to select manufacturers, with shipments slated for the second quarter of 2026. By bringing PCIe 5.0 speeds to mainstream price points, the company pressures rivals to accelerate their own Gen 5 roadmaps and gives end users faster, more efficient storage without the premium of high‑end models.
