Kingston Digital has hit a milestone, shipping more than 100 million units of its A400 SATA SSD since the drive launched in 2017. The budget‑oriented model quickly earned a reputation for shaving boot times and file transfers compared with spinning disks. Its blend of price and speed positioned it as a go‑to upgrade for mainstream PCs.

The drive delivers sequential read speeds up to 500 MB/s and writes up to 450 MB/s, a noticeable leap over traditional hard drives that typically linger around 100 MB/s. Those figures translate into smoother game loads, faster OS updates, and quicker media editing. Kingston’s SSD business manager Keith Schimmenti credited the adoption to the A400’s reliability and value.

Beyond the A400, Kingston says the volume validates its broader push into high‑performance NVMe, enterprise data‑center, and industrial SSD lines. The company plans to leverage the proven demand to accelerate those portfolios, aiming to capture customers migrating to faster storage tiers. The 100‑million‑unit mark confirms the A400’s lasting appeal in a crowded market.

Retail analysts note that hitting the 100‑million threshold without premium pricing underscores the A400’s role in democratizing SSD adoption. For users still on legacy HDDs, the drive offers a cost‑effective path to modern performance, while system integrators cite it as a reliable default storage option for pre‑built notebooks. Kingston’s milestone reinforces the viability of SATA SSDs amid NVMe growth.
