KDE has officially launched Plasma 6.6, the latest iteration of its Linux desktop environment, now integrated into Steam Deck's desktop mode. The standout feature is the new Plasma Login Manager, designed to replace Simple Desktop Display Manager (SDDM) in distributions like Fedora Linux 44, CachyOS, and EndeavourOS. Crucially, it requires systemd, excluding systemd-free distros. Spectacle gains optical character recognition (OCR) for screenshots, while a new USB portal allows sandboxed apps secure device access.

Users can adjust visual sharpness on Linux kernel 6.19 and create a global theme from their current setup. XRandr emulation in KWin enhances XWayland app compatibility, and custom screen mode support improves Wayland sessions. Screen mirroring and the new Slow Keys accessibility feature are enhanced. Windows games via Wine/Proton benefit from improved HDR color accuracy. Root-owned Wi-Fi password storage boosts security, and a QR code widget simplifies network connections.

Battery handling and ambient light sensor support are refined, alongside enhanced colorblind user support. Selective screen recording exclusions for Windows are added.
