RFK Jr. Faces Criminal Probe Calls Over Senate Lies

US Senators are calling for Robert F. Kennedy Jr. to resign or be removed from his position as US Secretary of Health and Human Services, with some demanding a criminal investigation after documents allegedly show he lied during his January 2025 confirmation hearings.

Sen. Edward J. Markey (D-Mass.) stated, "This is a pattern, not a slip," accusing Kennedy of jeopardizing children's health to advance his anti-vaccine agenda. Sen. Ron Wyden (D-Ore.) called for the matter to be referred to the US Department of Justice, citing proof that Kennedy lied under oath about a 2019 trip to Samoa.

During the hearings, Kennedy denied any connection between his visit and vaccines, claiming he went to introduce a medical informatics system. However, newly released documents contradict his statements, including a letter he sent to Samoa's prime minister suggesting MMR vaccine deaths were linked to a bad batch.

The 2019 Samoa measles outbreak, which killed 83 people—mostly children under five—was linked to plummeting vaccination rates. Kennedy's organization, Children's Health Defense, had promoted vaccine hesitancy following the deaths of two infants, who died after nurses mistakenly mixed the MMR vaccine with a muscle relaxant. The nurses were later sentenced to five years in prison.
