GTA VI Source Code Still Missing After 2022 Hack

The hacker behind the 2022 Rockstar Games breach claims the GTA VI source code remains in the wild, held by an unknown third party. Arion Kurtaj, who was arrested for the attack and is currently serving time in a UK hospital, reportedly smuggled a smartphone into prison and communicated via WhatsApp about the stolen data. Kurtaj expressed surprise that the source code hasn't leaked despite having been taken.

Kurtaj's group, known as Lapsus$, stole 90 unreleased GTA VI clips during the hack, some of which were published online. However, the game's source code was never released to the public. The breach occurred during GTA VI's development, raising concerns about potential security vulnerabilities and intellectual property theft.

Rockstar and parent company Take-Two Interactive have since implemented aggressive anti-leak measures, including return-to-office mandates and controversial layoffs. These actions, while speculative in their connection to leak prevention, underscore the industry's heightened focus on protecting unreleased content. The situation highlights ongoing challenges in securing high-value digital assets in an era of sophisticated cybercrime.
