Japanese peripheral maker Elecom is reissuing the M.A.P.P. mouse, a 2002 design by Ghost in the Shell creator Masamune Shirow, as a limited run of 3,300 units per color. The reissue maintains the original's unconventional mecha-inspired shape while adding modern features like Bluetooth 5.0, USB-C charging, and up to three device pairing. Pre-orders begin April 6, with general availability starting May 1.

Shirow personally updated the design, adding side buttons while preserving the core aesthetic. The mouse weighs just 78 g and measures 67 x 106 x 38 mm, making it exceptionally light for extended use. Five silent buttons and customizable DPI settings (400-3200) cater to both productivity and gaming needs. The lithium-ion battery lasts up to 45 days per charge and supports 100,000 recharge cycles.

Priced at 12,800 yen (about $85), the reissue comes in black, white, and blue variants. The timing coincides with a new Ghost in the Shell anime set for July 2026, suggesting a deliberate marketing tie-in. This revival represents a rare instance of a two-decade-old niche design getting modern internals while maintaining its cult status among mecha and manga enthusiasts.
