Black Flag Resynced Combat Smarter AI Forces Players to Mix It Up

Assassin's Creed: Black Flag Resynced is getting a major combat overhaul when it launches July 9, and Ubisoft wants players to know the game will punish predictable playstyles. The studio unveiled its vision for the remake's combat, parkour, and stealth systems, with the most significant change being a new Adaptive Enemies AI that learns and counters player patterns.

Enemies will recognize repeated moves—if you rely too heavily on parries, they'll unleash unblockable attacks; if you spam kicks, they'll start dodging. The solution requires mixing up your approach with varied combos using kicks, sweeps, rope darts, pistols, and heavy strikes to keep enemies guessing. Different enemy archetypes add further complexity: soldiers coordinate in pairs, while Brutes, Captains, and Demolitionists demand you break their defenses before attempting takedowns.

Parkour feels more responsive too—Edward recovers from drops faster, launches into jumps more quickly, and can roll while sprinting. Advanced Parkour returns with enhancements borrowed from Assassin's Creed Shadows, allowing free jumping to find shortcuts and unteethered wall navigation. Stealth also gets an upgrade: crouching is no longer locked to specific cover objects, and players gain access to blow darts, smoke bombs, and rope darts. This remake aims to modernize the 2013 classic with systems that feel genuinely challenging rather than simply nostalgic.
