AMD achieved a historic milestone in the final quarter of 2025, capturing 41.3% of global server CPU revenue, according to Mercury Research data. This marks the first time the company has broken the 40% barrier in the multi-billion dollar data center market, representing a 1.8% sequential gain and 4.9% year-over-year growth.

This revenue dominance is particularly striking because AMD's unit shipment share in servers stands at 28.8%. The gap reveals a higher average selling price for its EPYC processors compared to Intel's Xeon chips, which hold 71.2% of unit shipments but only 58.7% of revenue. Intel is selling more processors at a lower price point.

A similar trend defines the desktop CPU market. AMD's Ryzen processors account for 42.6% of revenue despite a 36.4% unit share, again indicating strong pricing power. The company grew its desktop revenue share sequentially by 1.6% and saw a 14.6% yearly increase in revenue share from the gaming segment.

The data points to a fundamental market repositioning. AMD is no longer just a volume player but a premium brand in both server and desktop segments, leveraging its architectural advantages to command higher prices and directly challenge Intel's revenue leadership.
