AMD and Intel slash PC CPU prices by up to 15%

AMD has joined Intel in raising PC CPU prices, with Ryzen models slated to climb 15% from last year's MSRP. Intel already announced a 10% hike across its client line, and both firms will enforce the increases by the end of March and into April. The move follows a sharp drop in available inventory.

Demand for consumer CPUs has outpaced supply as manufacturers pivot to server and data‑center chips. OEMs such as HP and Dell report a widening gap between orders and deliveries, with shipment lead times stretching from a few weeks to eight‑to‑twelve weeks. A batch ordered in April could not arrive until June, marking the worst shortage in Q2.

The shortage has pushed other components into the spotlight. ASUS’s Joint Technology Systems Division General Manager Yi‑Hsiang Liao said the company will raise prices across its lineup by 30% to offset soaring DRAM and SSD costs. Liao warned that the issue is shared by all Taiwanese PC makers, hinting at a broader industry squeeze.

With CPUs and memory both scarce, PC enthusiasts face higher prices and longer waits. OEMs may pay more to secure chips, but availability remains limited. The combined effect of price hikes and supply gaps will likely keep the market in a tight spot for the foreseeable future, leaving consumers with fewer options at higher costs.
