Motorola Hikes Budget Phone Prices 50% Amid Chip Shortage

Motorola has raised prices on its entire 2026 Moto G lineup by up to 50 percent as a global memory shortage continues to squeeze the smartphone market. The new Moto G Stylus debuts at $500, a $100 increase over last year's model, despite offering only minor upgrades like a slightly larger battery and basic stylus pressure sensitivity.

Prior to this week, Motorola's budget lineup included the Moto G Play at $180, Moto G at $200, and Moto G Power at $300. Overnight, these prices jumped to $250, $300, and $400 respectively. The Moto G saw the steepest hike at 50 percent, while the G Power increased by 33 percent to $400, now competing directly with Samsung's mid-range offerings.

These across-the-board increases affect all of Motorola's 2026 budget phones, not just the new stylus model. While the G Stylus does include some modest improvements, the dramatic price hikes across the entire lineup suggest supply chain constraints are forcing manufacturers to pass costs directly to consumers.
