AMD Expands FSR 4 to Older GPUs, Reaching 7000‑Series and Beyond

AMD has extended its FidelityFX Super Resolution 4 (FSR 4) hardware‑backed upscaling to older Radeon GPUs. The first rollout starts in July for RDNA3 and RDNA3.5 cards, including the Radeon RX 7000 series and integrated chips like the Radeon 890M.

The move means FSR 4 will run on RDNA2 GPUs in early 2027, covering the RX 6000 line, integrated 680M, and even the Steam Deck’s GPU. Porting the tech requires adapting from RDNA4’s FP8 format to older INT8 hardware, potentially affecting peak performance.

For gamers, the update unlocks higher frame rates and sharper images on a broader range of systems, including console‑grade GPUs. It also opens the door for PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X/S to adopt the same upscaling in future titles, expanding the reach of AMD’s image‑enhancement stack.
