Ronnie O'Sullivan Doubts World Championship Entry After World Open Run

Ronnie O'Sullivan has revealed he was 'probably' not going to enter this year's World Snooker Championship just 10 days ago due to concerns about his form. The five-time world champion, who reached the final of the World Open in China before losing to Thepchaiya Un-Nooh, admitted he was 'too scared' to play at the Crucible, fearing he would 'embarrass myself' with his current level of play.

The 50-year-old has struggled throughout the 2024/25 season, playing just one tournament in the United Kingdom and dropping to 10th in the world rankings. His recent form included early exits at the UK Championship and withdrawals from events like the Masters. However, his run to the World Open final, featuring a historic 153 break against Ryan Day, has changed his perspective on competing in Sheffield.

O'Sullivan acknowledged his limitations, stating he can only play '60-70 per cent' of shots comfortably and becomes 'one-dimensional' against top opponents. Despite these challenges, he now feels 'better than I was maybe two weeks ago' and is considering participation in the tournament from April 18 to May 4, where he seeks a record-breaking eighth Crucible title.
