Red Bull reshuffles technical team as season stalls

Red Bull reshuffled technical staff after a tough start. Ben Waterhouse promoted to chief performance and design engineer, reporting to Pierre Wache. He now oversees design and vehicle performance, aiming to tighten integration and speed development. The move follows a string of under‑whelming results under the new 2026 aero rules.

Also, Andrea Landi arrives from sister outfit Racing Bulls on July 1 to become head of performance, reporting to Waterhouse. Landi previously served as Racing Bulls’ deputy technical director and spent time at Ferrari as deputy head of vehicle performance. His addition is meant to inject fresh ideas and bolster the struggling chassis department.

The restructuring comes as Red Bull sit sixth in the Constructors’ Championship, 119 points adrift of leaders Mercedes after three rounds. Recent departures, including race engineer Gianpiero Lambiase heading to McLaren in 2028, have deepened concerns about talent retention. By consolidating senior engineers internally, the team hopes to reverse the slide before the Miami Grand Prix.

If the new hierarchy delivers quicker aerodynamic upgrades, Red Bull could claw back points in the remaining eleven races. Success will hinge on how swiftly Waterhouse and Landi translate their combined expertise into track‑side performance, a task made harder by the steep learning curve of the 2026 rulebook. Their progress will be measured at the upcoming sprint weekend in Miami.
