Track cyclist Matt Richardson is set to represent Team England at the Commonwealth Games in Glasgow, a significant shift from his previous successes representing Australia. "I think it's safe to say that it's paid off. The last two years have been incredible," Richardson stated. His objective in Glasgow is to defend the sprint, keirin, and team sprint titles he previously won. He feels he has significantly improved since relocating to Manchester, experiencing enhanced fitness, strength, and race pace, particularly in later stages of competitions. This contrasts with his past experiences of fatigue and physical distress after races.

Richardson's recent achievements include becoming the fastest man on two wheels by breaking the nine-second barrier in the flying 200m with a time of 8.857 seconds in Konya, Turkey. He credits British Cycling's extensive resources for facilitating such opportunities, noting a "no expense spared mentality" that allows him to focus on his athletic goals. He feels that all necessary support is in place, leaving the outcome dependent solely on his own dedication and hard work.
