In his latest Sky Sports column, Paul Merson says he would be worried by Roberto De Zerbi's post-match comments criticising Spurs' forward players and medical staff. After Spurs' goalless draw with Nottingham Forest, De Zerbi was critical of his forwards, saying they need to make "better decisions" in the final third. De Zerbi also revealed he was "not happy" with his medical team telling him that Savio and Destiny Udogie could only play 60 minutes, forcing the Italian to take them off, which halted Spurs' momentum. Merson stated that such criticism should be kept in-house, noting that De Zerbi does fall out with people and referencing Enzo Maresca's departure from Chelsea after similar public criticism of medical staff.

Merson added that while managers must accept medical advice, publicly blaming staff undermines authority. He questioned the criticism of the forwards, noting they did not create 20 chances and the Forest goalkeeper was not outstanding. Merson urged patience, stating Spurs should focus on securing fifth place rather than worrying about being eight points behind Arsenal, and emphasized that turning around a two-year struggle near the bottom takes time.
